HOME ESCAPE PLAN
Every Second Counts

A home fire can spread quickly, leaving little time to escape. Having a plan—and practicing it with everyone in your household—can help you act quickly when an emergency occurs.

Know Two Ways Out

Identify at least two ways out of every room whenever possible. Make sure doors and windows can be opened easily and escape routes stay clear.

CHOOSE A MEETING PLACE

Pick a designated location a safe distance from your home where everyone will meet after escaping—such as a mailbox, tree, or neighbor's driveway.

PRACTICE YOUR PLAN

Practice your home escape plan with everyone in the household at least twice a year, including both daytime and nighttime drills.

GET OUT & STAY OUT

Once you're outside, stay outside. Go to your meeting place and call 911. Never go back inside a burning home for people, pets, or belongings.
