BE READY BEFORE THE STORM
Know the Risk. Have a Plan. Take Action.
Severe weather can develop quickly and with little warning. Knowing where to shelter, having multiple ways to receive weather alerts, and making a plan before severe weather arrives can help keep you and your family safe.
Know the Difference
Watch vs. Warning — A Watch means conditions are possible; a Warning means severe weather is occurring or imminent and you should take action.

Know Where to Go
During a tornado warning, go to a basement or small interior room on the lowest level, away from windows. Put as many walls between you and the outside as possible.

Have Multiple Ways to Get Alerts
Don't rely on only one source. Use Wireless Emergency Alerts, weather apps/local media, and a NOAA Weather Radio.

During the Storm
Stay in your safe location and continue monitoring weather alerts for changing conditions. Keep everyone together, avoid windows, and do not leave your shelter until the immediate threat has passed. Be prepared for additional warnings or storms that may follow.

After the Storm
Stay away from downed power lines, damaged structures, floodwater, and other hazards. Continue monitoring alerts because additional storms may follow.

Stay Weather Ready
Severe weather can develop quickly. Know where you'll shelter, keep multiple ways to receive warnings, and make sure everyone in your household knows the plan.
